I like chasing sunsets. I followed this one through the empty streets and down down a steep hill, along a little forsaken alley where someone was sweeping up autumn leaves like molten gold. Autumn is the time of afternoons, of endings. I don’t really like them, they make me sleepy and wistful and a little bit sad. I must try very hard to remember that another dawn is not far away, just on the other side of winter.

I chased the Sunset all the way to my bench in the park, where I like to sit and write. There I lost it behind the trees and the clouds, so I gave up and walked home in the purple twilight.

Your photos are so beautiful! Who’s taking them?
I am, with a self timer. Thank you!
Oh my, you are amazing! <3
Indeed! It can be tricky to use a self timer! Those are really beautiful pictures. =^–^= The whole feel of the new site is somehow calming, too.
Beautiful pictures! :o
Thank you.
I am happy to hear that your old site will be available to peruse due to all the wonderful information you transcribed for us in it. That said, I am pleased to see your new site.
With the Portal, there was a feeling of a little girl playing dress up. A sweet, nostalgic feeling but one with an air of pretend – of trying things out. I think with this new direction you are taking you have centered yourself more firmly and thus know more clearly what you want out of your life and your blog.
Sparkles and gilt are lovely accents but there comes a time when you want them to enhance your life not make up its entirety. I am still making that transition myself, making my world lovely and full of grace but still being entirely present in it. I am reminded of Thoreau’s famous quote: “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
As for autumn, it’s my favorite season. To me it’s a time of new beginnings. Not like spring when new beginnings burst into bloom. Rather it’s the very beginning of new beginnings when the earth cradles seeds that still dream of what they will become and nurtures them in her bosom. It’s a time for resting and remembering and preparing for transformation that time (winter) will bring to fruition.
Thank you so much, that is a beautiful quote and what you say is also true.
Autumn is a time of beginnings in a way here too, because our ‘dead and dry’ season is Summer, and Winter is fresh and green, but still, I like Spring best.
these are simply gorgeous sweetie. <3
Thank you dear <3
these pictures are so beautiful. i just love the sun flare in the last one.
i like to chase sunsets too.
xx
I was so happy to catch those rays of sunshine in the last. I often chase sunsets to that bench <3
Lovely pictures! Autumn here isn’t marked so much by a change in weather as a change in light (it’s usually still warm on Halloween) but I think I know what you mean. Winter used to dampen my spirits; I didn’t like seeing everything brown and gray and dead and cold without any snow to make things look even a little more magical, but now I find it doesn’t get me down as much and I’m still able to find beauty in the shapes of the leafless trees. Maybe it has more to do with my place in life right now but I’m glad it’s happened. :)
Oh, I wish we had snow. Our winters are magical in their own way though, with mists and thunderstorms.
I am glad you are able to see it that way.
You’re basically pro with a self timer aren’t you? XD
I’m still learning, but it does present some amusement to passers by, watching me sprint and then drop in to a relaxed position.
Yes, you are amazing. This photos are so beautiful, lovely. My favorite is the first photo.
Thank you so much. I love that spot and that tree.

This photo is INCREDIBLE. The composition makes it look like you’re laying beneath a giant wave!
Thats an interesting observation. I’m glad you like it. Thank you.
Love the new site :) The photos are so pretty, there’s something special about self-portraits you can’t capture when photographing others.
Thank you! I agree, although I think they’re a lot harder in some ways, you can’t take as many shots to choose from.
xD sounds like fun! ^______^
I really like the quality of your photos – makes them look so magical ^___^
Thank you Liz!
Beautiful pictures Skye, I must say I LOVE your style, even if it’s not Lolita anymore I think this suits you more, very feminine and pretty. I wish I could go out barefoot, but I live in a big city, where it’s currently mid-spring by the way. And chasing sunsets sound enthralling :D
Oh, thank you Azu. This is just one of my casual summer dresses. I put it on because its nice and simple and looks vintage, even though its not.
I envy your spring!
Oh your new blog is so beautiful Skye! I really like it, it has such a different mood but a wonderful one. : )
Thank you, I’m happy you like it.
Your pictures are so gorgeous ;O;<3
I love this new style of blog, it really inspires and reminds me to slow down and relax :3~
I don’t like the late afternoons for the same reason, they always make me feel just the tiniest bit sad.
I’m trying to do that, slow down more, I think maybe we live longer that way or at least, live more.
I used to cry at the end of really happy days like birthdays or christmas, so I know what you mean.
I was wondering how you were taking photo’s of yourself! Self-timer ftw then, hey? :P The photo’s are so beautiful, Skye. I really love them! <3
Thank you so much Claire, I’m still getting used to taking them but its good practise.
These pictures are gorgeous!
I also love the way you write now, very wistful and elegant, but still retaining an attachment to the real world.
I’m really enjoying the new blog!
xx
Thank you, this is kind of how I write in my own paper journal. I’m glad it carries over. xx
Stunning photos!
Merci!
I am quite in love with your new blog, it feels as though you have fallen into another world. Those images are beautiful. x
Its my little daydream world, thank you xoxo
Love the new blog! :]
And, where did you get your dress? It’s so pretty!
I bought it at a fairly cheap clothing store a year ago, I like it because it looks vintage, but its not.
your blog is so dreamy & lovely. &these photos are stunning. I am trying to remember the same thing through this winter; remembering that after the months of cold & darkness, there will be light & sun again.
Thank you sweetie, your blog is so beautiful too. I think winter is good for us, because it reminds us life is like that too.
Wow, you took these photos yourself? I’m so impressed!
I miss Princess Portal, but to my surprise I’ve found that your photos over here are even more inspirational and say more about being a Princess than your educational posts over there did. I guess PP felt kind of like a make-believe game, whereas this blog is a lot more real :)
I’m so glad you feel that way, its what I am hoping to achieve.
My, you are beautiful. These pictures are gorgeous, and I love the new blog. :)
My goodness, you are beautiful! These four photos, especially the last one, depict girls’ dreams and boys’ fantasies. To me, they seem to say, “I am of the earth and I’m also of the sky. I can sit in the dirt and never be dirty. I can lean against trash and be ever-pure.”
Most inspirational! Thank you for posting. Do you sell prints?
